Soldati turchi in Siria, ci sono già!

C’è un drappello di soldati turchi ‘dimenticati’ in territorio siriano, mentre la tensione è in crescita fra Ankara e Damasco, riferisce il 3 maggio 2012 la stampa turca.

In base al trattato del 1921 con la Francia, dopo lo smantellamento del’impero ottomano, il mausoleo di Suleyman Shah, nonno del sultano Osman I il Grande, è considerato territorio turco e sottoposto alla custodia delle forze di Ankara.

Un drappello di soldati turchi si trova quindi da allora nel villaggio di Kara Kozak, a nord-est di Aleppo, a guardia del monumento, sul quale sventola la bandiera della Turchia.

La presenza di questi soldati in territorio siriano, mentre Ankara ha chiuso l’ambasciata a Damasco ed ha preso posizione contro il presidente Bashar Assad minacciando di fare ricorso alla Nato in caso di violazione della frontiera comune, costituisce “un elemento di rischio per la Turchia” ha detto a Hurriyet Osman Behadir Dincer, esperto del Centro Internazionale Studi Strategici di Ankara.

Fonti militari hanno però precisato che “i nostri soldati sono sempre li, e non c’è alcun problema”.

E ora un po’ di storia sulla tomba di Suleiman Shah.

Suleyman Shah (Ottoman Turkish: سليمان شاه Süleyman Şah), ( died 1227) The son of Kutalmış (Kutalmish) was father of Ertuğrul, who was, in turn, the father of Osman I, the founder of the Ottoman Empire. It is said that Suleyman Shah drowned in the river Euphrates and buried in the vicinity, the place now called “Turk’s Tomb” (Türk Mezarı) or “Turkish Cemetery” in the Jaber Castle and it is a sacred place for Turks.

In accordance with the Article 9 of the Treaty of Ankara (1921) signed between France and Turkey, the Jaber Castle is considered as a sovereign territory of Turkey. In 1973, the castle was submerged into the reservoir lake of the newly built Tabka Dam. The tomb of Suleyman Shah was relocated to a designated area of 8,797 m² close to Karakozak village in Aleppo Governorate, in accordance with the negotiations between Turkish and Syrian governments.
Today, a squad of Turkish gendarmerie guards this symbolic place. The tomb and its place is the only exclave of the Republic of Turkey.
